We visited Stowe, Vermont in October and that was the first time I experienced what is it they call fall colors!! I was totally amazed looking at colorful leaves covering entire mountain. I truly felt like someone has painted this beautiful canvas. It was too dreamy to be true.
Best time to visit: Autumn and Winter
Vermont is also popular for winter activities like skiing, which unfortunately I haven’t done yet.
You can track fall foliage on the link and plan your trip.
We drove from Boston, MA and it was a 3 hours 30 minutes’ drive. We first went to the visitors’ center in Stowe and got useful information about all the scenic spots, things to do and cafes. First thing we did was take the gondola ride in Stowe Mountain Resort.
Rates for Gondola ride: Adult: $29 | Children: $20 | For Family (2 adults and 2 children): $87

I really enjoyed views of the valleys and mountains from the cable car. Views from the top of Mt. Mansfield are breathtaking. On the summit of the mountain there are gift shop, restaurant, and hiking trails. You can also do a zip-line.
Next, we visited Moss Glen Falls which is a 1-mile hike. Part of the hike is muddy and wet, but it is not that difficult. We loved the beautiful waterfall and spent around an hour and a half here. Surprisingly, it was not much crowded, and we had a serene experience. Took many pictures.
After this we did scenic drive on Green Mountain Byway (Vermont Route 100) through the funky small towns of Stowe and Waterbury, past farms, and mountains before connecting to scenic Route 125, the Middlebury Gap Road, through Green Mountain National Forest. You can see how amazing this route is in the pictures below.
Trip to Vermont is incomplete without buying Maple candies and syrup. We got fresh from the season maple syrup in Stowe Maple Products. It’s a small shop but the owner is very friendly. They gave sample of few types of Maple syrup. I could feel the freshness in every sip.
After that we visited Lake Champlain chocolate shop, had a nice coffee, and tasted their variety of chocolates. We are chocolate lovers, so we also bought lots of chocolates with us.
We ended our trip at Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream farm. I actually wanted to do their factory tour, but we were late and missed it. Nevertheless, we had their delicious ice-cream. That was the perfect end for our day-trip to Vermont.
